French Bread

Michelle — Mon, 12/22/2008 - 5:48pm

Ingredients
1 1/2 C. water
1 1/2 tsp Salt
2 Tbsp Sugar
4 C Flour
1 1/4 tsp Yeast

Use French Bread Cycle

Procedure
If wanting to bake in Oven. Shape dough into a long French bread shape and place on cookie sheet and let rise till double in size. About 45 minutes.
I  place the pan on the stove top with the oven on and cover with tea towel. It rises well  there. When it has risen put a few slash marks on it with knife across the width not the length.
Spray it with cold water.
Pop it in a 375 degree F. oven on middle rack and bake 20 to 25 Minutes till golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

**NOTE: At about the 10 minute mark re spray with water, and also at the  20 minute mark.
French breads need the moisture while baking to get that nice texture.

You can also put a shallow pan of hot water on the bottom rack of your oven while baking it.

**This French bread is best when baked in the oven. This bread use water not milk.

Makes 1 large loaf
